A glass house on the sand, built around water.
Sea View Pool Villa is a six-bedroom villa on the beach in Lovina, next door to the Sea View Beach Estate on Bali's quiet northern coast. Two storeys of glass and timber stand in a lush garden threaded with quiet water features, and a twenty-metre infinity pool runs through the lawn until it seems to merge with the ocean. Beside it, a heated jacuzzi looks out over the Bali Sea. During a stay the entire property is yours, priced for twelve guests.
The center of Lovina is five minutes on foot: the Dolphin Statue, the warungs, restaurants, bars and shops. A new jogging track runs along the sand directly in front of the house, and the beach itself is public, which is how Lovina stays alive around you. Guests here rarely need a scooter or a car.
A garden grows in the middle of the living room.
The heart of the house is a double-height hall where a real garden rises through the floor, trees and all. It is the highlight of the property. The long teak table seats the whole party for dinner, an alfresco dining set waits outside for lunch with the sea view, and a Sonos sound system runs through it all. The interior keeps to beige, black and white, with wooden doors opening onto full-height glass, so the sea breeze reaches the bedrooms.
All six bedrooms come with a queen bed, an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, a television and a wardrobe, under ceilings given a touch of extra height. Hair dryers wait in the baths. The upstairs rooms open to the balcony and its sea view, the ground rooms to the terrace and garden, and both are made for doing very little.
Breakfast arrives with the view.
Mornings start with a basket of pastries, ripened fruit and fresh juice, eaten wherever the light is best. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and a long stone island if you like to cook; if you would rather not, the staff prepare any meal you ask for, or order in from the restaurant next door when the sun is too good to leave.
The turquoise-tiled pool takes the midday heat. The heated jacuzzi and the sunbathing chairs hold the rest of the afternoon, glass of wine optional, and a kayak waits for whoever wants the actual sea.
A full staff, on your hours.
The kitchen staff cook breakfast, lunch and dinner to order, and you pay only for the ingredients. Housekeeping comes daily with fresh towels. A gardener and pool attendant keep the grounds and the water in shape, and a security guard walks the property from seven in the evening until six. The helpdesk arranges the dawn dolphin boats, diving, hiking, cooking classes, Balinese cultural experiences and whatever else north Bali suggests.
The staff are on site eight hours a day, on hours you choose, and none of them live on the premises, so the house is fully yours between shifts. A host stays reachable around the clock. Stays of a week or longer open with a welcome package: lunch or dinner on the day you arrive, and breakfast on the house the next morning.
